1. Before you register!
  • Check which version of IELTS you need - IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training?
  • Check the requirements of your chosen organisation or institution by searching on Who accepts IELTS?
  • If you plan to emigrate, contact the relevant immigration authority to find out which version of IELTS you need, and the score required.
2. Book your test
You can book IELTS with us either online or at one of our offices in Karachi,Dubai, Malaysia and Sharjah. Please note that first come first served.
Online
Go to our IELTS online booking system, choose your test date, city and module then enter your personal details.
Print out the application summary or the confirmation e-mail you receive upon clicking ‘submit’ and bring it with you on the test date.
At the British Council
Pick up an application form from our office or download it from here .
Fill in the form in blue or black ink.

3. Complete the registration process
Come in person or send your documents with a representative to the respective British Council office in Abu Dhabi, Dubai or Sharjah, depending on your choice of the test venue in order to complete the registration process.
Registration documents and fees
Two recent identical passport-sized photographs ( please see the photo requirements below).
One of the permitted ID documents (listed below) and a clear copy of it - It has to be the one you indicated on your application.
Test fees: AED 875

IELTS photo requirements:
  • be in colour
  • be identical
  • be no more than 6 months old
  • be taken against a plain background so that feature are clearly distinguishable
  • be undamaged
  • be in sharp focus and clear
  • be print quality and of professional standard
  • be a close-up of the head and shoulders
  • show the candidate looking straight at the camera
  • show the candidate  with mouth closed
  • show the candidate with eyes open and clearly visible
  • show the candidate without glasses
  • not show shadows
  • not show anything covering the face, the outlines of the eyes, nose or mouth.
  • the background colour in the photograph and the colour of the clothes must be different.
Please note that photos which don’t fulfil the required standards will not be accepted.
If there is a problem with scanning the photos, we may ask you to provide another photograph.
Permitted ID documents are:
  • passport
  • Emirates national ID card and a copy of your valid passport
  • Bedouin card with a verification of identity form
  • Labour card issued by the UAE Ministry of Labour and a copy of your valid passport
Please inform us as soon as possible if you have a disability or other condition and need us to make special arrangements for you on test day. If you are booking online, make this clear in your application.
The address where you take the test may be confirmed after booking and is often different from the test centre's administrative office address.
